Rousseau family historian and author, Janelle Molony, has qualified for membership in the professional society of movers and shakers in the Western writing genre. Membership in the WWA means much more than an entry fee: Molony had to qualify with evidence of a significant number of publications that offer a contribution to the world’s exploration and appreciation of the American West. Her official welcome letter arrived in April of this year (2021), then she was featured in the society’s August members-only publication, Roundup Magazine.
Molony’s admission criteria included full-length books, multiple scholarly journal publications, museum and historical society publications, online history preservation interviews, and short stories. Her first official “Western” novel, From Where I Sat, is still in development, but she is looking forward to turning the pages of a heavily researched historical poetry and essay collection that is being prepared for publication as we speak (for more information, please see Poems From The Aslyum). Her first novel, Un-Adoptable? Faith Beyond Foster Care, was a National Indie Excellence Award finalist.
Two new scholarly research articles featuring Molony’s beloved family member and Western pioneer, Sarah Rousseau, will soon appear in the Annals of Wyoming and in the Michigan Historical Journal. From the WWA: Since 1953, WWA (based in Wyoming) has boasted historians, nonfiction authors, young adult, romance writers, songwriters, poets, and screenwriters for film and television who all have one thing in common—our work in every medium is set in the ever-changing American West.
Molony is honored to be recognized along with her dear family friend, California historian, and Wyatt Earp expert, Nicholas Cataldo. His involvement in her professional development and encouragement to keep writing has not gone unrecognized. His notable book The Earp Clan is available on Amazon.
Molony is also an active member of other professional organizations including the Oregon-California Trail Association and supports multiple historical societies in Michigan, Iowa, California, Minnesota, Kentucky, and Wyoming that have, in many ways, aided in her research over the years.
