Ten-year-old author and adoptee hopes his poetry and pictures can help kickstart healthy relationships with adoptive families in a two-part book series for children.
The author (using the pen name, “A.O.”) composed a rhyming poem as a way to provide answers to some of the questions he knows foster youth and other young children have when it comes to being adopted.
In a letter to those who support his dream of publication, he wrote:
I show [kids] what they can expect from an adoptive mom: kindness, protection, love, and acceptance. This is an especially important message for children who are a different race than their new family … or for those who have a disability, like many do.

Adoptive Moms Are Great!
(¡Las Mamás Adoptivas Son Geniales!)
The 34-page, full-color picture book encourages readers to consider having an open heart towards a new family member. The author says his book is unique because so many other books about this topic focus on the saddest part of the story – the loss of the child’s first family. In his story, however, he presents a case for how adoptive parents are able to provide a safe and loving home and are open to children with all sorts of differences.
More book specifications:
- The book shows children positive images of diversity in relationships and is inclusive of minority populations.
- The text is presented simultaneously in English and Spanish so caretakers and teachers (or kids) will have the ability to read the tale in the language they are most comfortable with.
The companion book, Adoptive Dads Are Awesome! (¡Los Papás Adoptivos Son Increíbles!) is also in preparation to support families with either type of parent.
[Adoptive Dads…] is different because of the special qualities a dad has, but it will look and feel the same and have the same purpose.

How to get a copy:
Both books are currently in the prototype stage with technical revisions and design elements to be finalized. Publication and sale dates depend on receiving full funding for the author’s project through an upcoming crowdsourcing campaign.
Yes, that’s right… the author needs financial support that is outside of the publisher’s budget. In grand total, A.O. Molony must raise a minimum of $5,270 USD in order to get his prototypes printed and distributed globally.
Not only will financial backers be supporting the young author’s publishing dream, but they will be helping to spread a healing message to children all over the world in both English and Spanish.
The book’s distribution plan, advertising plan, production milestones, and other publishing requirements (including a 100% transparent budget explaining the intended expenses) are detailed in a complete Campaign Proposal, available for download here.
You can easily contribute towards the total needed using one of these options:
*Contributions of $100 or more are eligible to receive a presale copy of either book with a personalized note from the author (please note which book you’d like and provide follow-up contact information with the contribution).
